RGC 1404 continue to stamp their authority over One East as they maintained their 100% record, defeating Heol y Cyw 27-22.
The North Walians, who have played all five of this season’s matches on the road so far, were made to fight for their win by a dogged Heol y Cyw, who deservedly came away with a losing bonus point.
Kelvin Davies kicked off the tries for the visitors from a driving lineout with Carwyn ap Myrddin and Josh Leech touching down, while they were also awarded a penalty try early on in the second half.
The Cockerels refused to give in and began to assert their authority over proceedings, as they added to Gareth Howells' first half try with further touchdowns from Darren Oram and Aled Jones. They couldn't complete the comeback, however, as the visitors dug in to see out the match.
Speaking after the win, RGC coach Chris Horsman was full of pride for his men, “'I don't think that you can underestimate what an achievement it has been for us to win our opening five games of the season. To play and win five consecutive away games with all that that involves in terms of the travel involved is phenomenal.
“I spoke before the game not only of the respect that we have gained since the beginning of the season but also that such respect could be easily lost. Performances such as today's will ensure that RGC Rugby continues to be taken seriously.”
Ystrad Rhondda's ill discipline once again nearly cost them as they ended their match at Gilfach Goch with just 12 players on the park, but nevertheless came away with a hard-fought 28-17 victory.
Last year’s Two East champions outscored their rivals three tries to two with Alex Webber, Liam Davies and David Grattan all going over, while Webber fired home two penalties and Rhys Truelove slotted a penalty and a conversion.
Treorchy were unable to build on last week’s win against Penallta as Mountain Ash claimed a 23-18 home win.
Outside half Matthew Parfitt, who was making his début for the Old Firm, produced an assured display notching up 14 points with the boot while releasing his back line to good effect. The hosts' two tries came courtesy of Luke James and Ross Davies.
The Zebras didn't leave empty handed as they picked up a losing bonus point thanks to touchdowns from Lloyd Williams and James Summers, with Celyn Ashton firing home two penalties and a conversion.
Penallta meanwhile returned to winning ways, edging to a 15-9 home win over Rumney. Rhys Watkins and Keiran Mahoney were the try heroes for the Pitmen, while Jonny Wright slotted a penalty and a conversion.
Elsewhere, Ynysybwl heaped more woe on basement boys Tredegar with a nine try 59-7 obliteration.
Bwl ran their rivals ragged from the outset with Jonathan Gough (2), Richard Lloyd, Shaun Ireland, Lewis Ryan, Ricky Thomas, Dale Stuckey, Alan Thomas and Owen Rees all crossing the whitewash, while Richard Tibbs landed seven conversions.
Finally, Rhydyfelin also bounced back from last week's defeat to record a bonus point 27-10 triumph at Merthyr.
Rhydyfelin’s four tries came courtesy of a Gavin Close double, as well as touchdowns from Lewis Peat and Malcolm Palmer.
