Amman United claim the 3 West title

Amman United celebrated their crowning as  Division 3 West winners with a presentation at their home ground shortly after running in 18 tries in the 122 – 5 home victory against Milford Haven on Saturday 20 April.

Ex-Wales international Shane Williams’ younger brother, Dean, was one of the Amman’s players of the season with an impressive 24 tries during their successful campaign. Dean, following in his famous brother’s footsteps on the left wing, picked up a hat-trick of tries at Llanelli Wanderers to help seal the championship last weekend and another hat-trick in front of the home support against Milford Haven.
Shane, who now plays for the Mitsubishi Dynaboars in Japan, has been an influence for Amman United in recent weeks by joining his brother and the first team for their training sessions.

Dean Williams said: “Shane’s been training with us since he’s been back from Japan but I think he’s got his work cut out to try and break his way into the team! We’ve got a great group of boys here at the moment with the perfect blend of old heads mixed with youth. It’s probably the best team that I’ve played with during my 16 years at the club. We built on momentum at the start of the season and it’s great to be able to crown a fantastic season with a huge win against Milford Haven.”

The players at Amman United have enjoyed considerable success since their current coaches Tony Williams and Gareth Davies took the helm three seasons ago. After narrowly missing out on promotion last season, the first team – most of whom have come through the junior ranks in the village – have bounced back during this campaign to seal their move to the Second Division.
Captain Andrew Lacey added: “It’s been a fantastic season. We’ve had a good run in the SWALEC league and only lost once and we’ve still got a treble to play for with cup matches still to play before the end of the season. Promotion is great for the club, the village and everyone connected to Amman United. We’re all local boys from the village and we’re good friends on and off the pitch. The support has been phenomenal as usual and it’s great to win in front of the biggest crowd of the season.”
