Young Green Stars prove competent 7s players once more

A special 125th anniversary season for Aberavon Green Stars drew to a close with their youth team capturing the Afan Nedd 7s Tournament at Tonna.

It is the fourth successive triumph for the youngsters in the event, seeing off the likes of Rhigos, Tonna, Ystradgynlais and Abercrave to meet Bryncoch in the final. They won it 37-5, bringing their total points scored in the tournament to 234, while letting a miserly 27 across their line.

It was the fourth Cup the Ospreys Youth League A side have won this season. Last September they lifted the 10-a-side tournament, and in the last three weeks they defeated Bryncoch 28-14 in the Youth Cup final and Aberavon Harlequins 23-22 in the President’s Cup final.

These successes reflect the hard work put in by their coaching team of Terry Cooksley, Mike Dyer and Lyndon Bailey, while also showcasing the leadership of popular captain Thomas Barnard.
