Lee Evans appointed Neath club captain

Fan favourite Lee Evans has appointed Neath RFC club captain for 2013-14.

The 31-year old back row forward has over 100 Neath appearances to his name, joining the club in 2008 and playing in the 2009 Cup Final win over Llanelli at the Millennium Stadium. He was also part of the 2009-10 Premiership winning side.

Just last week, he was named in the Principality Premiership Team of the Year for 2012-13.

Head coach Neil Edwards explains his choice of why he appointed the player known as “duck” as his side’s leader.

“As a player Lee works as hard as he can constantly,” Edwards said. “That quality is mirrored in his personality.

“Lee is a natural leader, he optimises the Neath spirit that he will help us grow throughout this new group. He is dedicated to the growth and development of our team and club.

“He has proven his commitment to the club by staying with Neath through a difficult couple of seasons passed, even though as one of the best players in his position in the premiership (as highlighted in WRU awards) he could have easily have accepted any number of offers to move on.

“I am proud of Lee for achieving this accolade, it is thoroughly deserved.”
