Thomas Carroll SWCA Round Up: Neath the team to beat

Leaders Neath look the team to beat as they opened up a 27 point lead at the summit of the first division of the Thomas Carroll SWCA, as they claimed their fourth victory with a 95 run drubbing over visitors Llangennech.
 The Gnoll side posted an impressive 232-9, Keiron Thomas (58) and Gethin King (52) both contributed half centuries while Matthew Davies finished unbeaten on 35. Tom Carey’s 4-60 was the best for the visitors in attack.
 The dynamic Neath attack dispatched Llangennech for 137, with Tom Jones claiming 4-49 and Joe Parkhouse snaring 3-13.
 Second place Tata Steel could only come away with a losing draw at Gowerton.
 The Swansea outfit batted first and posted 199 with Jack Lyle impressing at the crease (74), while Steve Innwood contributed a useful 41. It was once again the Joneses who were most potent with the ball in hand for the Steelmen, as David snared 5-44 while Matthew picked up 3-35.
 Tata in response finished on 185-9 when they ran out of overs; Kelvin Bartle top scored with 82 while Rowan Herbert knocked 29. Ian Capon claimed 4-43 as both sides took home a share of the spoils.
 New boys Carmarthen Wanderers moved up to third after they dispatched Clydach by five wickets.
 The Swansea Valley side won the toss and elected to bat posting a credible tally of 192-8 in their allotted overs, with Jason Davies their star at the crease after smashing a scintillating 113. Owain Binding was the most efficient with the ball in hand capturing 3-49 from 12 overs.
The Wanderers chased down the runs required in the 48th over after they were given a winning platform by opening pair Daniel James (94) and Giles Thomas (47).
An incredible batting display from Ynystawe openers, 15 year old Tom Blake (78n/o) and stalwart Andrew Beasley (142n/o), ensured the Swansea side claimed a ten wicket win over Cowbridge.
Skewen are the new pacesetters in Division Two after they made the most of Briton Ferry’s slip-up at Aberdare to leap to the summit after they claimed a comprehensive seven wicket win over Pontardawe.
Ponty’s batting order was ripped apart by some ferocious bowling with Jamie Lewis snaring 4-49, while Marc Lewis and Jordan Jones picked up three wickets apiece. In reply, Skewen easily reached the target with Owen Wells their best with the bat on 29.
 Aberdare remain third after they inflicted early leaders Briton Ferry Steel’s first defeat of their campaign with an 83 run demolition.
The Cynon Valley side elected to bat and knocked 218-3 off their allotted overs, Michael Griffiths (72) and an unbeaten 44 from Steve Manning provided the basis of their innings.
Steel in reply were skittled for 135, Michael Westhersby proving to be the visitors' downfall as he captured 4-28.
Elsewhere, Llandysul and Morriston played out a thrilling draw.
The West Walians batted first and set a superb total of 265-2 with opener Mark Wilson smashing an unbeaten century (124) in an inning that included 68 in boundaries, while Gary Williams was also in fine form at the crease smacking 107 with thirteen-4’s and three- 6’s.
Morriston did just enough to avoid defeat at the end as they finished on 151-9, Mark Whitaker’s 44 their top scorer.
In the day’s other fixtures, Llanelli and Gorseinon both picked up winning draws over Bronwydd and Swansea Civil Service respectively.
Porthcawl have opened up a 40 point lead at the summit of Division Three despite only managing a winning draw over Pontyberem.
The Seasiders posted 190-7 with Rob Jones (70) and Mark Dixon (56) starring at the crease. However, Pontyberem in reply dug in to hold on to avoid defeat as they finished on 103-8, with Malcolm Lewis (23) and Phil Rees (27) producing a dogged display.
Pwll continue to reign supreme at the top of Division Four after they bagged a 202 run drubbing over lowly Llandarcy. 
Finally, Llantwit Major Cavaliers moved up to third after they bagged a six wicket triumph at Kidwelly.
 Kidwelly were made to bat and could only muster 146-6 in their allotted overs, with Gary Hughes (2-25) the most efficient in attack.
 The Cavaliers, led by captain James Snelson, chased down the total in the 27th over as Snelson top scored with 58, while Harry Withers stroked 48.
