Brilliant Bargoed stretched their lead at the summit of the Swalec Championship to nine points as they dented Swansea’s title hopes with a 27-6 victory at St Helens.
The Blues have been in inspired form so far this season and made it nine wins from nine in a dominant performance on Swansea’s patch.
The Whites opened the scoring through a Nicky Thomas penalty, but that’s as good as it got for the hosts as a dominant Bargoed pack ran Richard Lancaster’s side ragged.
The buoyant Blues took a 17-6 lead into the interval with touchdowns from wing Lewis Protheroe, lock Geraint Edmunds and flanker Steffan Jouxson, while fly-half Josh Prosser added the extras to one.
To make matters worse for Swansea, they were forced to request uncontested scrums after the break after suffering a series of injuries.
A Prosser penalty tightened Bargoed’s grip on the match and a late try also from the outside half ensured Bargoed took home maximum points before the five-week Autumn International break.
Bargoed chairman Neil Carter was understandably delighted with the win.
“We would have taken any sort of win but to win in the way that we did, dealing with a disrupted second half through no fault of our own, was just outstanding.
“I have to pay great credit to the coaches, team management and of course the players for making it nine in a row - eight of them with bonus points. The team can take a well earned break now for the Autumn internationals.”
Merthyr continue to impress in their inaugural season in the league as they bagged their seventh win with a 15-9 success over Newbridge at the Welfare Ground.
The Ironmen crossed twice through Aaron Howard and Harry Millard, while Steve Lang converted one and also slotted a penalty.
At the other end of the table, Glynneath secured back to back wins as they edged out Tondu 25-21 at Abernant Park.
Centre Jack O’Reilly was the hero of the day for the hosts as he fired over six penalties and added the extras to Jordan Griffiths’ touchdown for a personal haul of 20 points.
The Waterwheelers remain third from bottom but did pick up a losing bonus point thanks to touchdowns from Jonathan Humphries and Tom Jones, while Paul Smithson added eleven points from the tee.
In a war of attrition at Cyncoed, it was Cardiff Met that picked up the slenderest of victories with a 19-18 triumph over Llanharan.
Owen Thomas bagged 14 of the Students' points from the tee while winger Pierre Tucker crossed for their only try.
The Dairymen, who have struggled so far this season with just one win to their name, did come away with a losing bonus point.
Meanwhile, in a tight battle at Newbridge Fields, it was Pontypool that came out on top as they did just enough to see off hosts Bridgend Athletic 16-13.
Pooler outscored their hosts two tries to one with efforts from Dan Haile and Nathan Brooks, with the former landing a penalty, while Tom Hancock was also on target from the tee.
Elsewhere, Tata Steel picked up the sixth win of their campaign, dispatching North Walians RGC 1404 20-13.
Chris Cobiesero bagged a brace for the hosts, while Steve Lewis was on target with both the extras and also landed two penalties.
In the day’s other fixture Narberth came out on top in a ten try thriller at Glan-yr-Afon as the Otters saw off hosts Blackwood.
