At the ready: South Wales and Monmouthshire point-to-point season gets under way

The South Wales and Monmouthshire point-to-point season gets under way with the first of the two Curre & Llangibby fixtures at Howick near Chepstow on Sunday (First race 12.noon).

There are 116 entries and of the 12 down to run in the men's open, all eyes will be on David Llewellyn's prolific Rosies Peacock who last year could only finish third in this race behind Over The Phone and The Magherally Man.

The main dangers to Rosies Peacock this time appearto be Tiger Rag, Chosen Milan and Schindler's Prince.

Of the 13 entries for the ladies' open race, Roger Willcox's Lauberhorn, a five times winner last season, and who unseated Anna Metokohy in this race last year but made amends by beating Chesnut Annie at the next Curre & Llangibby meetiing, could startfavourite.

However, Get It On, a winner at Chepstow and Ffos Las when trained by Evan Williams, and who acts on good and heavy going could be a real danger.

Another to consider is Minella For Party who also has winning form. There are 22 entries for the restricted and Jeff Bird's High Hatton might prove too good for Definitely Rosie.
Tim Vaughan's Golan Way and David Brace's Bringonthebranston are two to look out for in the confined race. And with 48 down to run in the maiden race, division on the day is likely.Three to watch out here are Sony Road, Eagle Harbour and Earth Tremor.
